Preliminary results were posted late Tuesday in a special election with far-reaching consequences for Palmer Lake.
The election judges will reconvene around 11 a.m. Wednesday to complete the recall tally.
Both Shana Ball and Kevin Dreher were successfully recalled from their positions on the Palmer Lake Board of Trustees, preliminary results show. The voting stood at 657 to 467 in favor of recalling Ball, while the margin to recall Dreher was 631 to 489.
A proposed ordinance that would require any future annexation by the town on the far north edge of El Paso County to go to the voters looks to be passed overwhelmingly, with 765 voting in favor of the ordinance and 375 voting against.
Judges worked to process ballots late into the evening. Tuesday was the mail-in ballot deadline for the special election, which was prompted by successful petitions.

Each of the questions was tied to the monthslong controversy over an annexation request to create a 74,000-square-foot Buc-ee’s travel center east of the town. Ball and Dreher previously voted to forward the proposal through to the final stage of review set for October.

Now that the annexation measure has passed, it could mean a question about the Buc-ee’s deal would need to be on the next town ballot if the trustees approve the plan next month.
Three candidates are running to replace Ball and Dreher: Roger Moseley, an Air Force veteran who has previously sued the town over its financials, Beth Harris, a corporate finance professional, and John Marble, a college student.
