1 dead, 2 injured after car crashes into tree on East Platte Avenue early Sunday
One person was pronounced dead at the scene of a traffic crash in the 2300 block of Platte Avenue just after 2 a.m. Sunday, Colorado Springs police said.
Investigators believe alcohol was a “contributing factor” in the single-vehicle crash, according to an online blotter entry.
The vehicle was traveling eastbound when it veered off the south side of the road and struck a tree. The vehicle had several passengers and upon emergency officials’ arrival, a female was pronounced dead and two other people were taken to a hospital with “serious bodily injuries,” the blotter entry states.
The Department’s Major Crash Team assumes control of traffic accidents that result in fatalities and major injuries. The team has taken the lead in the investigation, according to the blotter entry.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, but they believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
