A Colorado-based gym chain opened its newest location in Colorado Springs on Thursday. VASA Fitness officially began operations at Briargate and North Union Boulevards, its fourth location in the Springs.

The newest location, at 7655 N. Union Blvd., was formerly the site of a Gold’s Gym, which shut down all three of its Colorado Springs locations in April 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The conversion continues VASA’s trend of adapting empty buildings.

VASA opened its first Colorado Springs fitness center in 2018 in a former Albertsons grocery store at 455 E. Cheyenne Mountain Blvd. on the south side.

It added a second fitness center a year later in a former Kmart at 3020 N. Nevada Ave. in north-central Colorado Springs, and opened a third location last year in another former Kmart at 5885 Palmer Park Blvd., southeast of Palmer Park and Powers boulevards on the east side.

But the Union location brings with it new features, like a cold plunge tub — a first in a VASA gym. The cold plunge tub improves the already “robust recovery suite” present at existing locations, offering members everything they need, the company said.

“Today’s fitness consumer — especially Gen Z — is looking for a space that’s immersive, social, and results-driven while still being affordable,” said Rich Nelsen, chief executive officer of VASA Fitness, in a news release.

“This new club delivers all of that and more: boutique-style classes, on-trend recovery amenities, an energetic community, and accessible pricing. It’s the ideal space for anyone seeking a well-rounded approach to fitness, recovery, and total-body wellness.”

Memberships start at $14.99 per month. Future members can participate in the brand’s STUDIO classes, which focus on aspects of “total body health,” the release said. The trio offers high intensity workouts, strength training and a yoga course.

Members at the newest location will be able to use a lifting area, cardio zone, half-court basketball and strength machines and free weights. A full list of amenities may be viewed at the gym’s webpage.

VASA Fitness has 61 locations in Colorado, Utah, Oklahoma, Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Nebraska. It is based in Greenwood Village.
