‘Passport’ to summer: Drink deals, and more, in Colorado Springs
The only thing better than living in a place with such a wealth of craft drink options is living in a place where you can get those perks at a discount, while earning points for even more free stuff.
We speak, of course, of Visit Colorado Springs’ annual Crafts & Drafts Passport program.
Now in its ninth year, the campaign features an expanded roster of deals and an “exclusive, secret society” theme that’s only conceptually on the down-low.
Created by the Springs’ tourism bureau to highlight and support the local craft beverage community, the annual program offers participants discounts, buy-one-get-one and other deals at breweries and distilleries, as well as wine, coffee and milkshake shops.
All that’s required is a sign-up via web app, and check-in once on site, to save a few bucks off your visit — and help the city’s independent businesses keep doing what they do, said VisitCOS Director of Communications Alexea Veneracion.
“Every year, we emphasize the importance of supporting our local craft beverage partners — most of which are fairly small operations,” Veneracion said. “The passport is a great way to take advantage of great deals while at the same time contributing to our local economy and the business owners who make Colorado Springs so special.”
This year’s sub rosa theme doesn’t change the ease and accessibility of the passport, which is free and available on VisitCOS’ website. After signing up, app users can access a list of participating businesses and instructions on how to log their visits, use discounts and earn points, which can be accrued and redeemed for Crafts & Drafts-branded merch, such as stickers, lapel pins, and drink koozies.
The campaign this year has a few tweaks in the point-tally algorithm to help encourage visits to outliers on the local craft map, Veneracion said.
“Now you can earn more points by going to farther-out locations like the winery in Canon City,” she said.
A check-in at The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey, where passport users can enjoy two tasting flights for the price of one, earns 600 points — only 100 shy of redemption for a “subtle yet powerful” antique gold enamel pin bearing the symbol of the “Order of the Crafts & Drafts.”
The passport program runs through Dec 31. Go to visitcos.com to sign up.
