Police arrest several in homeless encampment sweep along Greenway Trail
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies made multiple arrests and issued several citations during a sweep of a homeless encampment along the Greenway Trail Monday.
The Sheriff’s Office news release said deputies worked with other agencies during the sweep, which was in response to “a surge of complaints and reports of increased camping,” in the area of East Las Vegas Street where it intersects the regional pedestrian and bike trail that follows Fountain Creek.
Four people were cited for trespassing on private property, and three others received citations for unauthorized camping on public property, the Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies also said they found one person who had been reported missing.
In addition, law enforcement made three arrests on outstanding warrants.
Daniel Scheuermann, 40, was arrested for failing to comply with probation on a domestic violence felony menacing charge.
Leticia Gutierrez, 23, was taken into custody for a parole violation stemming from a first-degree criminal trespass charge.
Yancey Buckalew, 62, was arrested for multiple failure-to-appear warrants related to driving under the influence and driving with a revoked license.
Deputies posted notices to vacate the area, and the Sheriff’s Office will conduct follow-up actions to ensure compliance.
