Colorado Springs weather: Light, patchy snow expected all day Saturday

Colorado Springs residents woke up Saturday to falling snow following a cold front that moved into the region on Friday night.

The snow will continue through the day, but will be light and patchy, says KOAA meteorologist Casey Dorn.

“I expect a dusting to a little more than an inch in the Pikes Peak Region with up to 2 inches in Monument.

“The main impacts of today’s weather are very cold feels like temperatures with wind chills in the teens all day, and minor travel issues. Highs will only reach the low 20s. Snow will end late tonight.”

Expect patchy fog Sunday morning, but skies should clear by the afternoon, Dorn says.

“The Canadian airmass in place today will remain on Sunday – but it isn’t that thick. As a result, highs will be warmer in the higher in the upper sections of the area: mid 30s at places like the Air Force Academy, with low 30s in the lower parts such as downtown Colorado Springs and Fountain. Otherwise, expect mainly sunny conditions.”

Expect temps to warm Monday and Tuesday, with sunshine and light downslope breezes pulling highs back into the mid-40s, Dorn says.

Dorn says meteorologists are also tracking a potential system in the Wednesday-Friday timeframe that will approach from the southwest.

The best chance of snow in the Colorado Springs area will come Thursday into Friday, with a lower chance on Wednesday.

“I do expect some accumulating snow – but it’s too soon to say how much we’ll get,” Dorn said in his forecast.
