A procession held in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe was held in downtown Colorado Springs on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024. In 1531, an apparition of the Virgin Mary appeared 4 times to Juan Diego, an indigenous, converted peasant in Mexico. The apparition asked Diego to pick roses and arrange them in his cloak before a meeting with the archbishop. When Juan Diego opened his cloak before the Archbishop, the flowers fell to the floor, revealing on the fabric the image of the Virgin. The Lady requested that a church be built in her honor on the site where an Aztec Temple had been built. On October 12, 1945, Pope Pius XII, decreed Our Lady of Guadalupe to be "Patroness of all the Americas." A feast is held in her honor every Dec. 12.
