2 officers assaulted by burglary suspect during arrest, Colorado Springs police say
Two Colorado Springs police officers sustained minor injuries after being assaulted by a burglary suspect on Saturday, law enforcement officials said.
Jody Jackson, 53, is currently being held at the El Paso County Jail on $10,000 bail and faces several charges including burglary and assault on a peace officer, according to a blotter entry.
At about 4:35 p.m. Saturday, police received a call about a burglary in progress at an office in the 600 block of Southpointe Court, east of Highway 115. The caller, an office employee, said they had been working in an office when they heard someone trying to break down the door. The suspect kept hitting the door despite warnings that police had been called. The man eventually broke the door open, but the caller was able to exit safely, police said.
Responding officers found the suspect, later identified as Jackson, inside an office and tried to get him to surrender. Jackson allegedly ignored commands and fought with the officers despite one of them deploying a Taser, police said.
After the officers subdued Jackson, he was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital and booked into the jail.
Both officers were able to return to duty.
