Colorado Springs, Pueblo break daily and monthly record highs Wednesday

After a short-lived cold front Tuesday, southern Colorado cranked up the heat again, breaking daily records for Oct. 2 and overall monthly records.

At 3:06 p.m., the National Weather Service reported Colorado Springs broke their daily and monthly all-time high temperature by hitting 88 degrees.

The city’s previous record for Oct. 2 was 84 degrees, set in 1979 and 2000. The all-time October high temperature record is 87 degrees in Colorado Springs, hit most recently in 2020.

The high temperature in Pueblo Wednesday reached 94 degrees which breaks the old daily record high of 91 degrees set back in 1979 and ties for the monthly all time record high.

The unseasonable heat is due to a high-pressure system currently sitting over the state. Typically, October sees the first freeze of the year, but Kathleen Torgerson with the National Weather Service is predicting most of the month to feature above-average temperatures.

Higher temperatures and dry conditions continue heading toward the weekend. Here’s the 4-day forecast from the National Weather Service.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 78. North northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming east southeast in the afternoon.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 79. South wind 5 to 15 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 86. West wind 10 to 15 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 76. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
