Blue Angels deliver sellout crowd ahead of Pikes Peak Regional Airshow
The Pikes Peak Regional Airshow is right around the corner, and tickets are going fast, according to show officials.
With less than two weeks before the show, which features the Navy’s Blue Angels for the first time, tickets are sold out.
“This year, with the Blue Angels coming, everything is going to be multiplied,” said Colorado Springs Sports Corp. spokeswoman Lauren DeMarco. “We’re already sold out and we’re still 11 days out, so we know it’s going to be big.”
Event organizers are offering survival tips for attendees and other residents who may be affected by the show.
Attendees are advised to show up early because traffic is expected to be heavy. Road closures and detours are likely, so motorists should follow airshow signs instead of relying on navigation apps, officials said.
Powers Boulevard, between Milton E. Proby Parkway and Fontaine Boulevard, will be shut down during show times, so drivers should take note of the schedule and plan to avoid the area if they aren’t attending the show.
“For four days, for at least two hours each day, we’re shutting down a section of Powers, and we know that’s going to affect a lot of people at Peterson and Schriever (Space Force bases), as well as all those homes in that area,” DeMarco said.
“We want to make sure this event doesn’t take anyone by surprise.”
Powers Boulevard shutdown times are Aug. 15, 2:45-4:45 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 1:45-3:45 p.m.
Attendees should be mindful of the hot weather and the inevitable engine noise and prepare accordingly, DeMarco said.
“It’s going to be hot, so you should bring water and sunscreen,” she said. “You can’t bring a big umbrella, because that will obstruct other people’s view of the show, and you can’t bring a stepstool to stand on, for the same reason.”
Other prohibited items include: alcohol/drugs, drones, tents or canopies, and weapons of any kind. All bags and other items are subject to search at any time, for any reason, officials said.
“There’s also going to be tons of vendors there, so bring your money,” DeMarco said.
