Former Avalanche winger Dan Hinote hired as Colorado Eagles associate head coach
Dan Hinote is coming back home.
A Colorado Avalanche winger from 1999-2006 and Stanley Cup champion, Hinote has been named associate head coach of the Colorado Eagles, the team’s AHL affiliate, the Avs announced Wednesday.
Hinote, 47, has almost a decade of experience as an NHL assistant coach between the Blue Jackets and Predators. He spent the past four seasons in Nashville. Hinote’s resume includes professional scouting for Columbus and coaching in the U.S. national team development program.

“Dan has a diverse background in professional hockey, including a decade as a player in the NHL and nearly a decade as a coach in the NHL,” Avalanche assistant general manager Kevin McDonald said in a news release. “He is a strong teacher of the game and relates well to younger players with his experience playing in college hockey, at the major junior level as well as his time as a coach with Team USA’s Under 17 and 18 teams. We are excited to have Dan back with the Avalanche organization and look forward to having him behind the Eagles bench this season.”
Hinote’s NHL career spanned nine seasons with 90 points (38 goals). The Avalanche drafted him No. 167 overall (seventh round) in the 1996 draft. He played six years for Colorado before signing with the Blues in free agency.
Hinote replaces former Eagles associate coach Steve Konowalchuk in Loveland. Konowalchuk became head coach of the Springfield Thunderbirds (Blues AHL affiliate) in May.
