Colorado Springs weather: Cooler, stormy forecast ahead of heat wave

Colorado Springs weather: Showers and thunderstorms Tuesday with heavy rainfall

Expect a mix of weather conditions in the Colorado Springs area in the week ahead, according to local forecasts.

“The work week will begin on a cooler, cloudier and unsettled note across southern Colorado,” said Alan Rose, meteorologist with Gazette news partner KOAA. “The threat for the heaviest rain today will shift farther west, favoring the mountains and mountain valleys. Storms will begin to develop in these areas between 12-2 p.m., reaching the I-25 (corridor) later into the afternoon.”

Storms on Monday will be slow moving, capable of heavy rain and flooding, as well as 1-inch hail and gusty winds, Rose said.

Expect a high temperature of 76 degrees on Monday in Colorado Springs before a warmup begins.

Pueblo is coming off a record-setting 1.62 inches of rain Sunday, breaking the record of .82 of an inch set in 1975.

The high in Pueblo on Monday is forecast to be 81 degrees.

The high in Colorado Springs on Tuesday is forecast to be 82 degrees with 92 expected Wednesday and 95 on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

“The heat will peak on Thursday before cooling slightly late this week as a low pressure system from California brings back a chance for showers and thunderstorms to the Pikes Peak region as we head into the start of the weekend,” Rose said.

Here’s the outlook from the Weather Service.

Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 3 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Increasing clouds, with a high near 92.

Thursday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 95.

Friday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.
