Motorcyclist killed in suspected hit-and-run DUI crash identified
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified the motorcyclist who died in a suspected hit-and-run DUI collision April 2 as 59-year-old Allen J Yankowsky, according to a news release from the Colorado Springs Police Department.
At about 1:35 p.m. on April 2, police responded to a call reporting a sedan vehicle that was driving southbound on South Academy Boulevard turned left in front of Yankowsky as he drove his motorcycle in the northbound lane, causing a crash near the Astrozon Boulevard intersection, police said.
Yankowsky died on scene.
The driver of the sedan, whom police identified Thursday as 60-year-old Adbou Toraore, then fled the area, “striking multiple property items.”
A witness who saw Toraore flee, and eventually crash into a curb, contacted police.
Police believe impairment was a factor in the crash. Toraore, who was arrested at the scene, is charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and other traffic-related charges, officials said in the release.
This is the 16th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time in 2023, there were also 16 traffic deaths.
