Bike to Work

Friday’s winter storm impacts linger in Colorado Springs this morning creating slick conditions for morning commuters.

“A cold Friday in the Pikes Peak Region with morning commute impacts due to ongoing snow showers. Our latest winter storm is still with us, and will be through the day, but dry air has embedded itself within the system,” Meteorologist Casey Dorn with Gazette news partner KOAA said.

“And plan on a longer than usual morning commute, give yourself extra space between other drivers and to stop.”

According to Dorn, snow showers are expected to continue through the morning, with temps expected to drop further in the afternoon. A, “burst,” of snowfall will erupt in the late afternoon and evening at higher elevations.

“Dry air continues to filter in through the day from the north. That will end snow showers in our area during the afternoon. In the mountains, a burst of heavier snow will develop toward the PM rush hour. If you plan to head out of town this weekend, expect challenging travel conditions through 11 p.m.”

“If you’re staying in town, bundle up. It’ll stay cold all day, our highs only hitting the low 30s.”

There’s a 40% chance of snow showers Friday. Expect cloudy skies and a high of 34 degrees. Winds from the north will roll through the area at 10 mph.

Looking ahead to Friday night, there’s a 30% chance of snow showers, mainly before 8 p.m. expect gradually clearing skies and a low of 19 degrees.
