40 gallons of fuel spilled by semi-truck in south Colorado Springs

A fuel spill along the northbound side of Interstate 25 in south Colorado Springs has prompted delays Wednesday morning as crews work to clean up over 40 gallons of fuel, according to Colorado State Patrol.

CSP received a request for a motorist assist along I-25 south near Mile Marker 136 just before 4:30 a.m. Troopers on the scene discovered a semi-truck had tipped over and had begun spilling fuel.

The semi initially crashed along the northbound side of the interstate, causing three additional motor vehicle crashes as motorists collided with debris from the wrecked truck, CSP said.

Officials said no injuries have been reported, but the 40-plus gallons of fuel spill did require a Hazmat response.

As of 6:30 a.m., northbound lanes in the area remain closed as crews work to clean the wreck.

According to CSP, the crash remains under investigation.
