Air Force drops second game in a row, falls 76-73 to UT-Arlington in Fort Worth

Air Force lost its second game in a row on Saturday, falling 76-73 to University of Texas at Arlington. The game was one of three at the USLBM Coast-to-Coast Challenge, held at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Falcons led early, holding a 22-14 advantage midway through the first half.

But the Mavericks kept it close and eventually found their game. They went on a 10-0 run in the final minutes of the first half to lead 42-37 at the break.

Air Force kept close in the second half, but UTA maintained. The Mavericks never surrendered their lead before clinching their three-point win.

Junior forward Rytis Petraitis led Air Force with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Ethan Taylor (16 points), Beau Becker (13) and Jeffrey Mills (10) also finished in double figures.

For UT-Arlington, Phillip Russell had a game-high 28 points. The Mavericks improved to 6-4 with the win.

Air Force’s loss follows last Saturday’s 73-68 home defeat against Eastern Washington, which snapped the Falcons’ six-game winning streak. Air Force is 7-4 overall.

The Falcons have only one non-conference contest remaining. They host Northern Colorado on Thursday, with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m.

Air Force will then take a couple weeks off before beginning Mountain West play at home against Utah State on Jan. 2.
