Jessie Kimber named Colorado Springs economic development officer

Jessie Kimber has been named Colorado Springs’ newest economic development officer, officials announced Friday.

Currently serving as the vice president of defense development at the Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC, she previously served as special assistant to former Mayor John Suthers.

The city’s economic development officer serves as a bridge between the local business community and new companies and business opportunities looking to come to or expand in Colorado Springs.

Kimber will begin her new role Jan. 2, according to a news release. She succeeds Bob Cope in the post, who retired Sept. 2 after 15 years of employment with the city.

“I am excited to rejoin the city of Colorado Springs and work closely with our business community, including our amazing small businesses, to help foster a vibrant economy that benefits all residents,” Kimber said in the release.

Kimber is a graduate of the College of Naval Warfare, U.S. Marine Corps University and the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. She served in the U.S. Navy for 24 years, holding command, executive and operational leadership roles.

Mayor Yemi Mobolade praised Kimber as a “dynamic leader” who brings “extensive leadership experience” to the job.

“We are thrilled to have Jessie back on board the city team and look forward to her accomplishing great things in our strategic priority area of economic vitality,” Mobolade said in the release.
