The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office’s Behavioral Health Connection Unit, or BHCON, pairs a mental health clinician with a law enforcement deputy to respond to mental health related calls for service. Since 2018, the unit been assisting law enforcement with crisis intervention, helping those experiencing a mental health emergency get the help they need, and stay out of the criminal justice system.
