Motorcyclist killed by wrong-way driver at Academy and Palmer Park
A suspected drunken driver traveling south in the northbound lanes of North Academy Boulevard struck and killed a motorcyclist about 10:30 p.m. Monday, Colorado Springs police said.
Kevin Esteban Lopez, 25, left the scene at North Academy and Palmer Park boulevards in his Ford Explorer but was found nearby, police said.

Christopher Haggerty, 35, was found in the road with traumatic injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
Lopez was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. He was not injured.
The death is the city’s 38th traffic fatality — seven of them involving motorcycles — in 2018. At this time last year, the city had 27 traffic deaths.
“This is a community issue,” police Lt. Howard Black said of the death toll. “We all see the speeds, the distracted driving that’s occurring. It’s really up to us to be responsible.”
