Pair of UCCS athletes injured in hit-and-run, police say
Two members of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs women’s cross country team suffered minor injuries in a hit and run during a Thursday morning team practice, school and police officials said.
The runners had “scrapes, cuts and bruises” and were not hospitalized, UCCS athletics spokesman Jared Verner said. They were scheduled to be evaluated by a team trainer and physician on Thursday, he added.
The incident happened about 7:20 a.m. at Glen Avenue and West Uintah Street near Monument Valley Park, police said. The two runners were “legally crossing the street” with five teammates when a driver in a white Dodge Ram or Chevrolet pickup hit them and took off, police said.
Police said the two athletes continued their run despite their injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
