Fire forces evacuation of apartment building
An attic fire forced the evacuation of an apartment building in Monument late Wednesday night.
A spokesperson from Tri-Lakes-Monument fire department said crews were first called to the apartments on the 100 block of North Washington Street around 10 p.m., reports Gazette news partner KKTV.
There were no visible flames initially, but during their search, firefighters found several small fires burning in the attic space of the apartment building.
Crews had to cut through the roof and through the ceiling to put out the fires, KKTV reports.
Crews are assessing the exact amount of damage caused by the fire. No one was hurt, KKTV reports.
The Red Cross is helping the families that were displaced Wednesday night.
