PORTLAND, Ore. – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks clinched a playoff spot Saturday hours after they beat the Portland Timbers 2 on Saturday 1-0.

“It was a tremendous team effort by the guys today,” Switchbacks coach Steve Trittschuh said. “We worked this week to have a good quality game, we did that and I couldn’t be more proud of the game we played, especially defensively, but our focus is on the final three games so we can get a high seed for the playoffs.”

The Switchbacks clinched a playoff spot when Arizona lost 3-2 to Salt Lake late Saturday night.

The Switchbacks’ Miguel Gonzalez scored off his left foot from outside the box in the 65th minute. It was his Gonzalez’s 10th goal.

“Another great team win,” Gonzalez said. “We are closer to our goal of being conference champions.”
