The No. 1 team on top of the USL Western Conference standings, the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, is preparing for a repeat match with the Sacramento Republic FC. The Switchbacks just played and beat the defending United Soccer League champions in Sacramento on Saturday, 1-0. The teams tangle again at 7 p.m. Friday at Sand Creek Stadium.

Switchbacks coach Steve Trittschuh says he has great respect for the Republic, but he’s also fighting to stay on top of the standings with another win: “It’s not easy playing a team twice in a week, but we are playing with confidence and look forward to getting three points at home this weekend.”

On the Switchbacks FC show on Gazette.com, Trittschuh talked about the firepower his team has on the field and how the fans play an important role for his squad to keep forging ahead to the playoffs.
