Police seek potential witness in Dylan Redwine disappearance
Police are looking for a man who may be a potential witness in the disappearance of Dylan Redwine, a Monument boy who vanished in November while visiting his father near Durango.
Over the weekend, police interviewed someone who remembered seeing a man in the north end of Vallecito near Mark Redwine’s home the day Dylan was reported missing, said Dan Bender, public information officer for the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office.
“They didn’t think anything of it at the time, but there was someone looking at rental properties on the same county road that Mark Redwine’s house is on the morning of Nov. 19,” Bender said.
The potential witness is described as a Hispanic man with dark hair between 45 and 50 years old, about 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds. The man asked the person interviewed by police where he could find a gas station, Bender said.
“That may not amount to anything, but it also gave us an opportunity” to ask anyone who may have seen anything unusual before or after Dylan disappeared to contact authorities, Bender said. Dylan turned 14 years old last week.
Anyone with information is asked to call Dan Patterson at (970) 382-7015 or Tom Cowing at (970) 382-7045, both sheriff’s investigators. People can also call the Durango-La Plata Crime Stoppers at (970) 247-1112 or leave a tip at (970) 382-7511.
“It’s still an ongoing investigation,” Bender said. “It’s not something that we’ve closed the file on and put aside. We have investigators working on it on a daily basis.”
Bender said the number of calls to the tip line has dropped dramatically.
“We were getting a two-inch stack a day when the case was in its first few weeks and that has since dwindled to … two or three a day,” he said.
