Popular runner dies after he is struck by car while biking near Boulder

Well-known Boulder runner Terence “T.J” Doherty, 32, died Tuesday from injuries he sustained after he was hit by a car while riding his bike on Sunday. It was the second fatal crash between a car and cyclist at the intersection in 3 years.

Doherty, who friends on Monday had said was on life support, died at Boulder Community Hospital on Tuesday, according to hospital officials.

Doherty was hit while biking along Violet Avenue north of Boulder at about 5 p.m. Sunday, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Nate Reid. A Volvo station wagon headed west on U.S. 36 turned left on Violet and hit Doherty.

The driver, Kirk Condon, 59, didn’t see Doherty, Reid said.

Friends said Doherty moved to Boulder from Ohio to teach high school Spanish. He recently became engaged to Dutch runner Adrienne Herzog, whom he met in Madrid, friends told the Daily Camera.
