D-20 school board plans budget vote
The Academy School District 20 school board is expected to vote on a $182 million budget for next school year at the regular meeting Thursday.Total expenditures projected for 2012-13 term will be about $4.7 million more than budgeted for 2011-12. No one spoke about the budget at a recent public hearing.Officials said that the jump in spending came from reinstating funding for textbooks, expanding student programs, increased salary and benefit costs and additional charter school spending. A portion of the proposed budget is drawn from reserves.D-20 officials expect revenue to increase for the 2012-13 school year by about $3 million, thanks to a voter-approved mill levy override in 2008 and projected enrollment growth. The increase also accounts for a decrease in School Finance Act per pupil funding for next year. The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at district administration, 1110 Chapel Hills Dr.
