Harrison District 2 names interim superintendent

The Harrison School District 2 human resources executive director on Friday was named the interim superintendent.David MacKenzie has been on the administrative team responsible for the changes in the district under the leadership of Mike Miles, who is leaving D-2 for a superintendent job in Texas. The district hired consultant company Aspen Group International to help with the search for a permanent superintendent.D-2 school board President Deborah Hendrix said the board hopes to make an offer to a candidate in November, with the new superintendent starting Jan. 1.Applicant instructions will be available online at www.hsd2.org after Wednesday. The district will accept applications and resumes until Sept. 1.

Hendrix said the review process will include community meetings. The new superintendent’s base pay will be around $150,000, Hendrix said, adding that the person will be on a pay-for-performance plan just like D-2 principals and teachers. The district and the board want to see continued improvement in student achievement, she said.Miles was hired when the district was specifically looking for someone to lead critical changes, Hendrix said.”The district is in a different position now,” she said. “We’re not looking for someone to transform the district, we’re looking for someone who can sustain the direction the district is going.”
