Wander Woodland. You’ll love it

An advertising campaign comparable to shouting from the rooftops, Wander Woodland is designed to capture attention to the wonders of Woodland Park.

Organized by Anita Riggle and Kimberly Burleson, economic development/budget analyst and assistant city manager, respectively, the campaign focuses on the commercial and recreational aspects of the city.

“With Wander Woodland we want to encourage the broader community and our residents to shop local,” Burleson said.

Taking a page from the national Small Business Saturday on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Riggle and Burleson are narrowing the scope.

“We want to make Small Business Saturday here in Woodland,” Burleson said.  “We want to promote our businesses.”

To get started, Riggle is trekking through the city’s commercial sector distributing flyers about the promotion along with stringing banners along the city’s main street.

The flyers include information about the city’s Shop & Dine downtown promotion that offers rewards for repeated shopping along main street.

There’s a message in the slogan.

“We want to encourage people to wander around town, to stay here, shop here,” Burleson said.  “We want people to visit the dinosaur center, for instance, check out the trails. Not just shop, not just drive through on highway 24, think what a cute town this is and wave goodbye.”

The campaign launch is timely.

“We are coming upon our leaf-peeping time, and we wanted to start this during that time,” Burleson said. “People come up here naturally to see the leaves, and we want to encourage them to stop for a meal, check out our stores and look for things you can’t get somewhere else.”

It's been 25 years, We who remember can't let others forget

It has been 25 years since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. It’s hard to believe that something so significant is now a quarter century old. In fact, it is estimated that nearly a third, or 100 million Americans, are too young or were not born to remember how significant that day was for the United […]
