Photos: Kids enjoy Monument Touch-a-Truck

A large crowd, mostly excited children and smiling parents, turned out for the inaugural Touch-a-Truck event on Aug. 15.

Firefighters also served up a free pancake breakfast.

Kids could not only see but were encouraged to climb on and explore various fire department vehicles as well as work vehicles from the Town of Monument. Also available was a police cruiser and an ambulance.

“it’s nice to get the community to come out and see what we do, learn about the different style of trucks,” Monument Fire Battalion Chief Sean Pearson said. “Each truck has a specific job on a fire. It’s nice to educate people on how that works.”

A beautiful Colorado day greeted the crowd assembled at the Monument Fire District Admin Offices. It was bright but with just enough cloud cover to keep the temperatures and the UV manageable.

“We saw all this stuff happening, then I remembered I had seen a poster about it,” said Aleta Wagner. “It looked like a fun thing for my 5-year-old to do.

Her son, Zeke, was climbing on a city bucket truck.

“He’s loving it – so much,” Wagner said.
