Lake George tractor pull to honor Ed Adams
Lake George’s Community Park, just a bit west of County Road 96 on the north side of US 24, you will find the 30th annual Arkansas Valley Flywheelers Antique and Classic Tractor Pull. The pull runs Aug. 15-16.
Ed Adams of Lake George, one of the founding members, passed away in November 2025 and this year the tractor pull is in his honor. Ed and his wife Evelyn have been a part of the tractor pull for the 30 years of operation.
A tractor pull is a motorsport competition where tractors or trucks drag a heavy, weighted sled down a dirt track. The goal is to pull the sled the greatest distance. The sled uses a moving weight box. As the tractor moves forward, wheels on the sled turn gears that slide the heavy weights toward the front of the sled. This shifting weight digs a metal plate (pan) deeper into the dirt. The further the tractor goes, the harder and heavier the pull becomes until the machine loses momentum and stops.
The vehicle that pulls the sled the furthest distance wins. If a tractor pulls the sled across the full length of the track (usually 100 meters), it is called a “full pull,” triggering a tie-breaker with more weight added.
Tractors from 1938 and older to 1990 are welcome and spectators can view the pulls and cheer on their favorite. First, second, and third place ribbons will be awarded for each class.
On Saturday, weigh in will run from 8-10 a.m. with the pull starting a 11 a.m. On Sunday, weigh in is from 8-9 a.m. and the pull starts at 10 a.m.
There is free dry camping available at the park. Members and non-members are welcome to join in the competition or just sit back and watch. There is no admission fee, just excitement especially when a tractor’s front wheel takes to the air.
