Inaugural Touch-a-Truck and Pancake Breakfast promises to be a popular community draw

A feast of family-friendly sights, sounds, treats and eats highlight the August community calendar.

The events include a Touch-a-Truck and Pancake Breakfast, Art Hop, Monument Rebels Community Golf Outing, Food Truck Friday and the Tri-Lakes Cruisers Annual Benefit Car Show. Each event promises to delight hundreds of guests and foster a strong, local camaraderie.

An inaugural Touch-a-Truck and Pancake Breakfast will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on Aug. 15 at the Monument Fire District admin offices, 19775 Mitchell Ave. Fire trucks and heavy equipment, first responders and a free pancake breakfast comprise this free event.

Kids of all ages are invited to meet local firefighters and police officers, and climb aboard and learn about the fire trucks, heavy equipment and police vehicles.

Jamey Bumgarner, division chief of support services, MFD, said the idea for event originated from a wet-down ceremony in which firefighters physically push a new fire truck into the station bay to place it into service. That’s when the idea to involve the community and offer a sit-down breakfast was born.

“Public Works will bring some heavy equipment, and people can come and go all morning long,” Bumgarner said.

Town Manager Madeline VanDenHoek added, “The MFD fire chief proposed partnering with the Town of Monument and Monument Police Department to bring the event to the community.”

The MFD International Association of Fire Fighters, who represent MFD career fire fighters and emergency personnel in northwest El Paso County, will serve breakfast. To learn more call 719-484-0911.
