Woodland Park artist featured in solo exhibit

Woodland Park artist Cyndi Deswik is featured this month in a solo exhibition at The Bridge Gallery in Colorado Springs. Titled “Ideas in the Abstract,” the show highlights Deswik’s paintings with multi-layered oil glazes, which is a transition for her work.

“For this show, I intended to paint all abstract designs. Sometimes the paintings stayed abstract but sometimes they became something entirely different,” she said. “I really enjoyed exploring the edge between these two radically different painting approaches.”

According to a release from the gallery, Deswik’s 19 new paintings delve into the themes of nature and abstraction.

“I’m so honored to be given a solo show,” she said.

To celebrate the exhibit during First Friday Art Walk on July 3, Deswik’s friends from the Teller County Hiking and Meetup Group showed up.

“We have hiked for many years, and I was honored by their supportive presence!” Deswik said. “They probably wanted to see what I had been talking about for years!”

In Woodland Park, Deswik has shown her work in the Eichman Gallery at Park State Bank & Trust and Reserve Our Gallery. She will be painting at the Victor Plein Air event on Labor Day.

The Bridge Gallery, at 218 W. Colorado Ave., is open from noon to 3 p.m. July 18, 25 and Aug. 1, when Deswik’s show closes.
