Natural Healing shop opens in Victor

A new shop in an historic building in Victor inspires a sense of renewal with a natural healing beat.

Melissa Blessing and Kristi Martinez, friends and partners, recently opened Flower & Mortar Herbal Co. after finding success in markets such as the Cripple Creek garage sale.

“We did fantastic,” Martinez said. “We were really excited.”

Blessing added, “We were floored!”

In a splashy marketing campaign, Blessing and Martinez, in conjunction with Threads and Treasures, will sponsor the City of Mines Summer Festival next month.

The festival will be a showcase for their products, healing balms, essential oils, tinctures and sprays, among them.

“We really want to promote natural healing and chemical-free type of healing,” Martinez said.

In addition to mixing up healing balms, Blessing and Martinez make teas designed to target certain areas of pain such as “Monthly Business,” for women who experience cramps.

To soothe burns or cuts, the partners make balm that can also be used for a baby’s diaper rash.

“It’s also good to put on the bottom of your feet,” Martinez said. “Our products are unique because we choose every ingredient.”

To make lemon lavender tea, the partners chiefly use their home-grown lavender. Some of their teas help lower blood pressure while their elderberry elixir helps build immunity, Blessing said.

With tinctures and sprays the partners consider various aspects of health.

“Magnesium spray helps with cramping, sore muscles and digestion,” Martinez said.

In opening the store in an historic building, enhanced with the brick wall, the store exudes character, fits the place known for its 20th century architecture.

“We love this building; it’s wonderful,” Martinez aid

Without revealing what or who, the partners speak of other businesses opening in Victor.

“There is beginning to be a wave of people coming up here,” Blessing said. “It’s a great little town. It’s very easy to do business here. And we love it.”

The summer festival features 35 vendors, food trucks, the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter, gold panning, music and the Cripple Creek donkeys.

The festival is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 8 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 9.

For now, Flower & Mortar Herbal Co. is open on weekends.
